Fall in North County San Diego: A Local's Guide to Festivals, Coffee & Date Nights
What are the best things to do in North County San Diego in the fall?

Fall in North County San Diego means harvest festivals in San Marcos and Escondido, Día de los Muertos in Oceanside, pumpkin patches in Carlsbad, and apple season up in Julian. It runs from October into November.
People who move here from somewhere with real seasons always ask me the same thing: "Does fall even happen in San Diego?" It does. It just looks a little different. The leaves don't put on much of a show, but the weekends fill up with street fairs, farm stands, cider, and those warm, clear evenings that make you want to stay outside a little longer.
I've lived and worked in North County for more than 22 years, and fall is one of my favorite times of year here. The summer crowds thin out, the light gets softer, and the whole area feels like a neighborhood again.
Here's my short list for fall 2026: the events worth putting on your calendar, plus a couple of coffee stops and date-night ideas to round out the weekend.
Fall Festivals in North County San Diego (2026 Dates)
These are the big community events this season. Most are free to attend, and all of them are a great way to get a feel for a town if you're thinking about moving here.
San Marcos Harvest Fest (October 11)
A fall street fair in North City with vendors, food, and live music. North City is one of the newer, walkable parts of San Marcos, so this is a good excuse to see how the area has grown. Details here.
Fallbrook Harvest Faire (October 17)
This one has a true small-town feel, with pumpkin and costume contests right on Main Avenue. Fallbrook also sets out scarecrows all over town through the end of October, so take a slow drive or walk around while you're there.
Escondido Grand Avenue Festival (October 18)
More than 300 vendors line historic Grand Avenue from 9am to 5pm, with crafts, food from around the world, and live entertainment. If you haven't spent time in downtown Escondido lately, it might surprise you. Event info from San Diego Tourism.
Oceanside Día de los Muertos Festival (October 25)
This is the 25th year for this celebration in downtown Oceanside, and it's one of my favorite days of the fall. Expect a lowrider and classic car show, traditional Danza performances, a Catrina contest, kids' crafts, and lots of food and art. It runs 10am to 4pm, and it's free. Parking gets tight, so plan to walk or take the Sprinter or Coaster in. Festival details.

Carlsbad Village Street Faire (November 1)
Hundreds of vendors take over Carlsbad Village for the day. Go early, wear good shoes, and leave room for lunch at one of the Village restaurants. Faire info.
Pumpkin Patches and Farm Days
If you have kids, or you just like a good corn maze, these three cover most of North County:
Mellano Farm Stand, Oceanside: Weekends through November 1, 10am to 4pm. A pumpkin patch and corn maze on a working family farm along the river. It's my pick for something local and low-key.
Carlsbad Strawberry Company: Open daily through November 8. Giant pumpkins, tractor rides, a petting area, and corn mazes. On Friday and Saturday nights, the haunted corn maze is for older kids and grown-ups.
Pumpkin Station, Del Mar: Daily through October 31. Big slides and rides, which make it a hit with little ones.
Bates Nut Farm, Valley Center: Daily through October 31. This is a North County classic, and families have been coming for generations. The patch covers acres, with wheelbarrows for hauling your pumpkins, tractor hayrides, a straw maze, and live music on October weekends from noon to 4pm. Admission is free. Parking is free on weekdays and $10 on weekends. Leashed dogs are welcome, so bring the pup. Before you leave, stop in the farm store for fresh nuts, candy, and fudge. Pumpkin patch details.
Local tip: October weekends at Bates get busy. For a quieter visit, go on a weekday morning, or try one of their Fall Friday Festivals on the last three Fridays of October, open until 6:30pm.
Date Night in Carlsbad Village

Dinner: Campfire
Campfire cooks over a wood fire, and the room is warm and low-lit. The plates are creative and seasonal. It's perfect for a cool fall evening. Make a reservation, especially for weekends.
The Show: As You Like It at New Village Arts
New Village Arts is a small, intimate theater in Carlsbad Village. This fall they're staging a musical version of Shakespeare's As You Like It, playing October 16 through November 29, 2026. Campfire is just a few blocks away, so dinner and a show is easy. Tickets and showtimes.
If those are booked: try Venezia in Oceanside for cozy Italian, live music at the Belly Up in Solana Beach, or sunset drinks at a rooftop bar near the Oceanside pier.
